The Coalition for the Woolworth Building’s efforts to preserve Alamo Plaza’s most prominent Civil Rights site are making the news!

This grassroots coalition was formed after the 2018 Alamo plan adopted by the City and the State of Texas left the Woolworth Building’s future uncertain.

Coalition members La Juana Chambers Lawson of the San Antonio African American Community Archives and Museum (SAAACAM), together with Susan Beavin and Vincent Michael of the Conservation Society, recently spoke to the San Antonio Heron about the concerns.  Society 1st VP Patti Zaiontz braved Thursday’s chill to speak to News4SA on location.

Meanwhile, East Side activist Nettie Hinton traveled with Beavin and Michael to Austin to talk about the Woolworth Building at Preservation Day, hosted by Preservation Texas.  The building made Preservation Texas’ list of Most Endangered Places in 2016 and remains there.
